The affected units were sold exclusively at Target. The CPSC documents 26 reports of the fire hose port detaching during use. Once separated, this component presents a serious choking hazard to infants and young children.

For a product marketed to support fine motor precision and cause-and-effect reasoning through button activation, the failure point sits at a particularly concerning developmental intersection. A detaching accessory compromises both the tactile feedback loop and the physical safety threshold that determines whether a toy remains appropriate for its intended age range.

Wooden Cornhole Board With Bean Bags

In a parallel action reported by Southend Echo, Smyths Toys has withdrawn a Wooden Cornhole Board with Bean Bags from sale. The Office for Product Safety & Standards confirmed that the item does not comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, citing possible asbestos contamination in the sand-like material contained within the toss bags. The affected product number is 233254—a poplar wood board accompanied by six colourful bags in red and blue-and-white stripe patterning.

An OPSS spokesman stated that the product presents a risk to health as the sand inside the bags may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos, and that asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure. A Smyths Toys spokesman added that testing has shown the sand-like material inside the toss bags may contain trace levels of asbestos, that the overall risk is low, and that the manufacturer is recalling the affected items as a precaution. Customers have been advised to stop using the product immediately, keep it out of reach of children, and return it to a local Smyths Toys Superstores location for a full refund.

The concern here extends beyond the tactile surface materials that parents typically inspect. Contamination within sealed internal components—a category that includes weighted beans, beads, or sound-producing granules—requires the kind of supplier transparency that end users cannot independently verify at the point of sale.
